The National Weather Service s Winter Storm Warning remained in effect through 1 p.m. Thursday.
On Wednesday evening, the West Essex Regional, Fairfield and North Caldwell school districts announced that schools are closed Thursday and there will be no remote instruction.Â
Caldwell-West Caldwell School District did the same, saying remote instruction will resume Friday, Dec. 18.
Essex Fells School Superintendent/Principal Michelle Gadaleta also announced a snow day during the Board of Education meeting Wednesday evening.
After three months of in-person education for all students, except those who opted for all-remote instruction, the school is providing remote education for all students until the beginning of the winter holiday break. In-person instruction is scheduled to resume Monday, Jan. 4.

NORTH CALDWELL â The West Essex Regional School District returned to its hybrid schedule Monday, Dec. 14 after moving to all-remote instruction for two weeks after the Thanksgiving holiday amid the coronavirus pandemic.
âWe do believe that thereâs some value in bringing in students for those days,â Superintendent Damion Macioci told the Board of Education at its meeting Monday, Dec. 7. He noted that each cohort of students could spend two days in classrooms before the winter holidays.
The district is considering a similar two weeks of remote instruction after the Christmas and New Yearâs holidays, he said. âI can say with confidence that the closure this time around served its purpose.â
