Taxpayer money helped build the 14-story St. Teresa of Calcutta Villa apartments at 14th and Commercial Street in the East Village operated by Father Joe's Villages.
Father Joe's Villages announced plans Tuesday to develop two midrise affordable housing projects with a total of more than 200 units in the East Village area of downtown San Diego.
Each building will be eight stories and have 100 units and are expected to open in 2026. Father Joe's Villages' Turning the Key initiative has a goal of creating 2,000 new units for homeless people.
