ADB earmarks $3 billion loans for Philippines

The Asian Development Bank plans to lend some $3 billion (P154 billion) to the Philippines this year as the country continues its way toward economic recovery from the pandemic.

Based on the updated lending pipeline for the Philippines for 2021, a total of $3.86 billion worth of projects will be financed by the ADB. Bulk of this or $1.93 billion has been allotted for infrastructure and long-term investments. Another $1.2 billion is for human capital while the remaining $734 million is for local economic development.

During the Laging Handa briefing yesterday, ADB country director Kelly Bird said the multilateral lender remains committed in financially supporting the Philippines. “This year, we have a robust lending program with the government. We’re looking at around $3 billion, some of which is to support infrastructure projects,” Bird said, adding that “the amount can be a good stimulus for economic recovery and also provide some of our policy-based lending which is budget support as well. ”

. Bacoor, Cavite ranked in third place, followed by Antipolo, Rizal. Dasmariñas slid into seventh place, as Imus and Calamba trailed behind in the eighth and ninth spots, respectively. The study noted that the pandemic may have accelerated people’s movement away from Metro Manila and into nearby provincial cities. Such locations offer more affordable properties and land development opportunities. These hotspots are expected to grow in demand further in 2021 as home buyers continue to look for less crowded residences with wide, open spaces. Moreover, the new normal of remote work allows people to move outside the central business districts in the metro.
