Red Wolves Take the Series Against UL Amid Confusion in Jonesboro
Arkansas State took the weekend series today against the Ragin Cajuns. UL attempted a comeback towards the latter moments of the 2nd half; however, it was not enough to overcome the lead of the Red Wolves. Arkansas State won the 1st half 46-29, but UL did battle back to win the 2nd half 48-37 it just was not enough to prevail over the Red Wolves.
The Red Wolves hot shooting continued today against UL. Arkansas State shot 57.9% from the 3 point line and 48.2% from the field. While the Ragin Cajuns shot an abysmal 35.0% from the 3 point line and a modest 43.5% from the field. The Ragin Cajuns did a lot better on the boards tonight, grabbing a total of 36 rebounds compared to the Red Wolves 30. The Ragin Cajuns still need to clean up the turnovers. UL gave up 15 turnovers, whereas Arkansas State gave up 13 turnovers.
For Ragin Cajun softball fans, the 2021 season can t come soon enough.

Louisiana Edges Out Texas State 62-60
The Ragin Cajuns battled all kinds of adversity today, such as: Coach Marlin not being present due to Covid, an early start time, and a 7-0 run by Texas State in the second half. However, UL was able to procure the victory 62-60.
Louisiana outscored Texas State in the 1st half 31-24, while Texas State won the second half 36-31. Texas State went on a 7-0 run in the first two minutes of the 2nd half. But the Ragin Cajuns weren t deterred, and battled back to get the victory.
Louisiana shot 45.7 % from the field and they shot 33.3% from the 3 point line. Cedric Russell was the high point man for the Cajuns with 21 points, he also added 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Dou Gueye also contributed 11 points and 8 rebounds.
Louisiana Softball Ranked in Top 10 of Coaches Poll
Gerry Glasco s squad will start the 2021 campaign ranked 9th in the Coaches Poll.
The NCAA Top 25 Coaches Poll was released this morning.
1. UCLA
25. Duke
It s not the first preseason poll to give the Ragin Cajuns a top 10 ranking. Last week, D1softball ranked Louisiana at number seven in its 2021 preseason top 25 poll.
Typically ranked each year at the start of the season, a number nine ranking in the coaches poll (and number 7 in D1softball) is not a surprise.
The Cajuns first weekend of softball is set for Friday, February 12-Saturday, February 13, when they host Baylor and Missouri State in the 25th Annual Louisiana Classics at Lamson Park.
