In the United States, more than 2 million people live behind bars, families are separated, communities are broken and countless people are haunted by the memories of violence they experienced.
While Catholic employers still have a long way to go in figuring out sustainable maternity leave policies, most are missing another easily implemented opportunity to support women and families more generally: offering part-time, flexible jobs.
Reaching out to Catholics who have grown estranged from the church and being in touch with one s own trauma can help dispel cynicism and mistrust of the synod.
