Chief ministers of Nagaland, Assam bat for oil extraction at border region

Our Reporter Dimapur, Oct. 31 (EMN): Despite major reforms in the mining sector in the country, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the north-eastern states are yet to make a mark in the mineral block auction regime. Rio was speaking at the 1st Northeast Geology and Mining Ministers’ Conclave at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima on Monday. He expressed hope that the deliberations at the conclave would lead to important policy decisions, and the mineral resources would not remain as mere potential resources but form the backbone for economic growth and development of the region. He added that this conclave will open a new chapter in the history of mineral exploration and mineral development in NE India. Our Reporter Dimapur, Oct. 31(EMN): Union Minister of Mines, Coal and Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, on Monday announced that INR 5 crore would be release to Nagaland and other north-eastern states for carrying out coal exploration and to strengthen the department. He stated this during the 1st Northeast Geology and Mining Ministers’ Conclave held at Niathu Resort in Chümoukedima. While assuring to pay the amount in advance to all the NE states following submission of a proposal, he urged for ‘good performance and results’ from the states. He added that more financial assistance would be provided if a state submits reports of exploration and needs more funds. Dimapur, Oct. 13 (EMN): The deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal, has informed that all vehicular movement will remain suspended from Old Dhansiri bridge till Nagarjan Police Point in Dimapur from 5 am to 5 pm starting from October 17 to the 24th. This has been necessitated to facilitate cutting of trees from Nagarjan Police Point to Walford Petrol Pump without any hindrance during the mentioned period, the DC said in a notification on Thursday. It stated that there will be total power shutdown from 5 am to 5 pm during the same time frame at Supermarket area, Circuit House areas and Bank Colony. The DC also notified all concerned that any type of cables, wires etc, strung between the trees within the stretch of Naga Shopping Arcade (Supermarket) Dimapur starting from Nagarjan Police Point to Walford Petrol Pump should be immediately removed before October 16.
