Positive wastewater detections in Mackay North and Cairns
Fragments of SARS-CoV-2 have been detected in the Mackay North and Cairns Marlin Coast sewage catchments.
Mackay North receives sewage from the suburbs of Beaconsfield, Richmond, Shoal Point, Bucasia, Blacks Beach, Rural View, Eimeo and Dolphin Heads, while Cairns Marlin Coast receives sewage from the suburbs of Barron, Kamerunga, Macalister Range, Yorkeys Knob, Caravonica, Trinity Beach, Smithfield, Palm Cove, Trinity Park, Clifton Beach and Kewarra Beach.
Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said continued detections across the state is becoming more concerning.
“We continue to urge anyone with any symptoms, no matter how mild to come forward and get tested,” Dr Young said.

Queensland’s acting Premier has pointed to migration data showing a surge in new residents as an endorsement of the state’s pandemic response as he hit out at the Prime Minister’s handling of his own party room.
Interstate migration data, released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics this week, revealed Queensland gained the most new residents during the September quarter while NSW and Victoria went backwards.

An extra 7200 people moved to Queensland at the same time 4100 people left NSW.
Brisbane gained 3200 people through net internal migration, the most of any capital city, while Sydney, with 7800, lost the most.
Queensland Health made the announcement in an alert on Wednesday afternoon.

Queensland has announced its plan for a series of specialised vaccination hubs to be set up within weeks across the state, providing Australians with some insight as to how the process might work across the country. The state s health chief, Dr Jeanette Young, announced six COVID-19 vaccination sites will be rolled out first in the main cities where incoming travellers are in quarantine: Cairns, Townsville, the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Brisbane s north and south. We will start there with our first six hubs, then as we get those newer vaccines that can be distributed more easily ⦠we ll be able to spread that vaccine throughout the state, she said, while confirming discussions with the government over the sites had taken place.
