Cases filed in 4 drug war cases; others still under review

Department of Justice (File photo) MANILA - Four of 52 incidents under review for suspicious deaths during police operations have resulted in criminal cases. Cases have been filed in Regional Trial Courts involving the deaths of Carl Angelo Arnaiz (Navotas City); Richard Santillan and Gessamyn Casing (Cainta City, Rizal); Anwar Sawadjaan, Noel Bacalzo, and Angelo Hofer (Zamboanga del Norte); and Sharif Amatonding (San Pedro, Laguna). Last year, the Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Services released information on the 52 cases to the Department of Justice (DOJ), part of the more than 150 incidents under review. The DOJ has since turned over the case files to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). "Per the initial report of the NBI dated 4 January 2022, most of the 52 cases turned over by the PNP Internal Affairs Service are still under evaluation by the regional offices or are presently subject of case build-up," DOJ Secretary Menardo Guevarra said via text mes

Contracts for three priority bridges worth $240-M signed by PH, China

(Embassy of China / MANILA BULLETIN) The Three Priority Bridges Project with the amount of around $240 million is a government-to-government (G2G) cooperation project between China and the Philippines with the utilization of Chinese financing facilities.  The on-going projects on the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge and Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge over the Pasig River are also key components of the Twelve Priority Bridges Project. According to the Embassy of China, the first bridge of the Three Priority Bridges Project is the North and South Harbor Bridge in the port area of Manila. It was designed to be a two-way four-lane bridge with the main bridge’s length of 300 meters and a total length of 799 meters, which is set to be completed in around three years.  The bridge will be able to accommodate more than 5,800 vehicles per day once operational.
