Garda Sarah Jane Frewen said the accused made no reply when charged, and the DPP consented to the case being dealt with summarily at district court level.
Judge Smyth asked for an outline of the prosecution’s case in the assault charge so he could consider the issue of jurisdiction.
Gda Frewen said it was claimed that the accused forced his way in to the property by kicking in the door.
It was alleged the door hit the woman in the face and she then tried to defend herself, but the accused punched her and threatened to burn the house down. The prosecution would say he then fled.
