New Federal Funding Will Soon Be Available For Restaurant Relief

Another lifeline is coming for the restaurant industry. The Small Business Administration announced this week that it will soon begin taking applications for the Restaurant Revitalization Fund program, which was established by U.S. Congress as part of the American Rescue Plan. Missy Kelleher is the owner of Bernice’s Bakery in Missoula, and she says without government support, her business probably would have had to let employees go or even close.  Kelleher says, We ve retained every single one of our employees that have chosen to stay. She says sales were down about 35% for the first two months of the pandemic. For safety, the shop was only open for curbside pickup through the winter. Right before their third busiest holiday, Valentine’s Day, an employee tested positive for COVID, and they had to temporarily shut their doors while the whole staff quarantined. But, with spring weather and declining case numbers, they’re seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.

27 Local Businesses Receive Money from County Job Retention Fund

27 Local Businesses Receive Money from County Job Retention Fund Melissa Gordon, Program Manager for Grants and Community Programs, explained the program. “The commission created the Small Business Job Retention Program and made up to $625,000 in funds available, and the applications became available on December 10,” said Gordon. “Within just a few hours, we had received almost $2.9 million in total requests and we re able to fund $625,000 of those requests.” Gordon explained the parameters of how the funds could be used. “The funding can be used to provide for mortgage and lease payments, for payroll expenses, for utilities, for insurance and for inventory,” she said. “So the grant awards are between $10,000 and $25,000, and we were able to support 27 local small businesses with the fund.”
