Attygalle has instructed all Heads of public institutions to manage expenditure within the budgetary provisions next year as it is “extremely difficult” to make additional allocations due to COVID-19 uncertainties.
The instructions were given in a Circular sent to all Cabinet Ministry Secretaries, State Ministry Secretaries, Provincial Council Chief Secretaries, Department Heads, District Secretaries and Chairmen of Corporations and Statutory Boards.
“Given the uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the amount of provisions to be allocated annually for the expenditures related to the natural disasters, it will be extremely difficult to provide allocations in addition to the budgetary provisions. Therefore, the expenditure incurred in the year 2021 should be managed in a well-prioritized manner,” the Circular instructed.
