BOT Law Review Committee approves amendments to IRR

National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan (File photo) MANILA - The Cabinet-level Committee on the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) has approved the proposed amendments to the 2022 IRR of the BOT Law during its meeting held on Sept. 15. During the meeting presided over by National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, members of the BOT IRR Committee deliberated on each of the proposed amendments to determine and ensure the viability of public-private partnership (PPP) projects and their contribution to the government's goals. "We have to ensure that the amendments will address stakeholder concerns on financial viability and bankability of PPP projects. Tariff rate proceeding helps Philippines address pork availability

African swine fever (ASF) has dramatically impacted pork production in the Philippines. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the country’s total swine inventory opened 2021 at 9.72 million head, down 24% from a year ago. Pork production was down by a USDA-estimated 30% in 2020, and this drop in domestic output has led to very tight pork supplies and high pork and hog prices. However, the Philippines has the highest tariff rates of any major importer in the world – 30% on pork cuts within a 54,000 metric ton (mt) quota, and 40% for volumes imported beyond the quota. These high tariff rates have made it impossible for imp

Press Release - Hontiveros warns: Wide-scale importation of pork will push local hog industry further down Senator warns gov t-backed pork imports may leave thousands of families without livelihood longer than necessary

March 10, 2021 Hontiveros warns: Wide-scale importation of pork will push local hog industry further down Senator warns gov t-backed pork imports may leave thousands of families without livelihood longer than necessary Senator Risa Hontiveros today warned that government s decision to drive up importation of pork products will only worsen, not solve the country s pork crisis, as this will likely push further down the already-struggling local hog industry.
