The Crater Creek wildfire, fanned by winds, merged with the Gillanders Creek fire. Together, the two fires grew from an estimated 1,100 hectares to 10,000 hectares.
At its peak, the fire was approximately 250 square kilometres, about double the size of Vancouver, and it displaced 33,00 people who were ordered to flee their homes.
The BC Wildfire Service’s lead forecaster said a dry cold front will come into the province on Thursday and Friday and could make wildfire conditions worse.
