University. Just last week a woman died after stepping in front of a car on University Avenue. The driver was not ticketed. Lice tried t stop the suspect Brandon Seeley on a probation violation. They say he wouldnt and then drove at an officer who had gotten out of his squad car. Thats when the officer fired wounding seeley. Seeley continued to drive but was later arrested and taken to the hospital. As kf this morning, seeley was still in the hospital. Just after 830 tonight, fire crews were called to the super target just down the street from jordan creek. A viewer sent us this picture of smoke coming from the starbucks in the target at 4505 mills civic parkway. We have been told that the store was evacuated. Anybodydywho looks outside can see theres nothing to plow yet. But theres certainly a lot of activity at the citys public works building as cree get the plowsseady to go cedar rapids has approximately 90 vehicles equipped to push snow some of the vehicles getting loaded with salt and sand has other work scheeuled for today. But that was before the forecast. That work, including some road construction, was put on hold as the vehicles returned to get reconfigured to plow snow. Before another cold snap this weekend and next week. This morning we are mainly dry with mostly cloudy the skies. The exception we could see some light drizzle mid morning to late morning otherwise temps in the mid to upper 20s with a warming trend today to 44 degrees by afternoon with a sun cloud mix this afternoon. Tonight we stay in the 30s for lows as temperatures will rise to 46 degrees on friday with increasing clouds and rain showers by 3pm into friday evening. Cold air will fall in behind the rain with the chance of some snow showers after midnight into saturday morning but that will taper before sunrise. While we could see a few slick spots as temperatures fall this will not be a huge deal as of now.
