Members of the Utility Workers local 580 once again made their voices heard during Tuesday night’s Indiana Borough Council Meeting.
The union says that the employees they represented have been without a contract for nineteen months. Utility Workers local 580 president Denise Brudnock said that the grievances that had been filed against the borough have cost the borough thousands of dollars in legal fees. She said that if the borough council members would listen to all sides involved, things may be resolved.

On Tuesday night, Indiana Borough Council heard from some of their workers protesting the lack of a contract.
Prior to the start of the Borough Council Meeting, members of the Utility Workers local 580 were protesting outside of the borough building, protesting the lack of a contract, the lack of raises for laborers, and spending borough taxpayers’ money on legal fees in this matter. During the meeting, some of the members spoke during public comment. Denise Brudnock said they feel left out of the negotiations.

Indiana Borough Council on Tuesday night discussed their much-anticipated return to in-person meetings at the borough building on 8th Street.
As part of that return to in-person meetings, upgrades are planned for the council meeting room to turn it into a “Zoom room” to make it possible for those unable to attend or take part in the meetings in person to do so through Zoom video chat, which has been utilized by the borough to hold meetings since the start of the pandemic. Borough Manager C. Michael Foote said that the upgrades will not be ready in time for the meetings in June.
