(Reuters) - Daniel Ricciardo said he had complete faith in his ability to deliver and was ready to put the ‘train’ back on track after a tricky start to the Formula One season since switching to McLaren.

Speaking to reporters at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Thursday, the Australian said he knew the situation would come good.
“It’s not something that I have any self-doubt. I know deep inside me what I’m capable of and I know if I was driving with an element of fear or hesitation then I would know that this sport’s not for me any more,” he added.

(Reuters) - Indianapolis Motor Speedway will host 135,000 racing fans for the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday and the sold-out crowd will represent a big step forward as North American sports continue to turn the page on the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’ve hit our capacity for this year’s Indianapolis 500 and look forward to hosting 135,000 fans at the world’s largest sporting event since the pandemic began,” race organizers said on Thursday.
“We’re thrilled to welcome fans ‘Back Home Again’ and appreciate our loyal customers and their continued support.”
The 135,000 represents approximately 40% of the venue capacity, which is being constrained to stem the spread of the virus.
Sponsor interest in the Extreme E electric off-road racing series has accelerated since last month's debut in Saudi Arabia, team owner and 2016 Formula One champion Nico Rosberg said on Thursday.

(Reuters) - Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff warned on Thursday of possible protests and court action if Formula One’s governing body did not speed up a ‘half-baked’ clampdown on flexible rear wings.

The Austrian spoke after McLaren principal Andreas Seidl said some rivals were gaining an unacceptable advantage because the International Automobile Federation (FIA) had put off action until June 15.
“Delaying the introduction for whatever reason leaves us in a legal vacuum and leaves the door open for protests,” Wolff, whose team have won the last seven drivers’ and constructors’ titles, told reporters at the Monaco Grand Prix.

(Reuters) - Mercedes expect to start contract talks soon with Lewis Hamilton after the seven-times Formula One world champion indicated he intends to race on next season, team boss Toto Wolff said on Saturday.

The sport’s most successful driver is out of contract at the end of this year but at the Portuguese Grand Prix on Thursday Hamilton told reporters: “I plan to be here next year”.
Hamilton and Mercedes spent much of last year negotiating before they announced a one-year deal in February, with the season starting in March, and Wolff has said they would not leave it so late again.
