I’m grateful for how the pandemic afforded me more time with my family, particularly my children. This helped give me a revitalised perspective on how important investing in the next generation is for the future of our society and economy. Not only do I want to continue investing in my family, but also the young architects who are the future of our profession. We need to ‘mind the gap’ in terms of the lack of hands-on workplace opportunities that many have not benefitted from due to the pandemic and find a way to make this available no matter the cost.

Bow Exchange is a mixed-use scheme designed by Architects pH+ for client City & Suburban Homes, located on the Limehouse Cut Canal in London. The proposals for the site include the demolition and replacement of the existing 2 to 3 story industrial warehouse buildings, with a new building ranging from 4 to 9 stories providing high-quality workspace at ground and mezzanine levels and 92 residential units above. The scheme has been carefully developed to respond to the varied character of the existing and emerging urban context, referencing the materiality and robustness of the industrial wharves that line this area of the Limehouse Cut.

GMSF MESS…Three things in life are certain: death, taxes and delays to the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework. The document, which is being drawn up by the 10 Greater Manchester boroughs, will set out land allocations for housing and employment development…if they ever finish it. The most recent delay came about as a result of a spat between Stockport and Tameside councils over Green Belt reallocations (no surprises there) and the publication date has been pushed back once more. It must be tough for those who just want it to be over, but the whole thing would be a lot less frustrating if the GMSF meetings were filmed and aired on TV like some sort of grotesque reality show. “Day
