the upper deck of the bay bridge is officially open 30 hours ahead of schedule. caltrans crews said the work went quickly thanks in large part to the weather and that means the holiday tomorrow should be easier for anyone trying to get around the bay. kimberly tere has more on that for us. reporter: diane, this is a sight we were not expecting to see until early tuesday morning. at 7:15 tonight, the first cars were allowed back on the top deck of the bay bridge. needless to say, drivers are happy to be back on the bay bridge after having to the use sluggish alternate routes the last couple of days to get from the east bay to san francisco. i think it is fantastic. i think what caltrans is above and beyond the scope. you are excited. pretty excited about it. reporter: the bay bridge which was shut down on friday wasn t set to reopen until 5:00 a.m. on tuesday. it s really exciting. everybody worked hard to get this done as fast as it you. great team work out there

ktvu s jade hernandez is at the byron airport where the airplane pilot managed to make a safe landing. reporter: the plane landed here at the end of the runway. you can barely see it from where we are. but the lead specialist would not even comment on the landing tonight. we do have a report from the faa it has a report of a plane landing. this is a view of where that plane landed. the hopper pilot landed safely and refused medical treatment. it s pretty amazing. very lucky. reporter: these are shots our camera took at byron airport just over an hour ago. the plane involved in this collision landed here. the female pilot is okay. the plane was a beach craft bonanza and the helicopter was robinson fr22. we re live at the byron airport where you can see the plane landed it appears on its nose. a lot of law enforcement agents out there. sheriff s agency is there. the ntsb will not release the crash victim s names. more than an hour ago i did speak to the plane s brentwood
though we still don t know why the truck driver refused to top. meanwhile, occupy protesters are taking on the prison system. activists across the country are holding a national day of solidarity in so you want prisoner s rights. a rally is set to begin in sanguine on the. we re about a quarter mile from the actual event. main street was blocked behind me and we were told to stay put. more protesters are showing up. even though i counted more than 100 there already. it s supposed to be a 3-hour event. inmates are talking about their experience behind bars and people are hoping for a peaceful assembly. the occupy movement, instead of fighting against the top 1%, they re fighting for the bottom 1% ! that s how occupy sanguineton was born. the rally is scheduled for three hours and some residents on main street are concerned about things getting out of hand, like what s happened at oakland city hall. these movements movements invariably attract crazies. the occupy move
