Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and zoo
MUMBAI: After being shut for almost one year, Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and zoo popularly known as Byculla zoo opened for the general public and received 11,000 visitors over its first weekend. The total revenue collected was Rs 5.74 lakh.
However, the number of visitors were lesser when compared to the pre-Covid times when there would be 5,000-6,000 persons visiting the zoo on weekdays and on weekends crowds are seen going up to 15,000 as well.
The Byculla gardens and zoo were shut since March last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, even while it was shut it conducted virtual picnics for some school students and their parents exhibiting the two Royal Bengal tigers named Shakti and Karishma which were brought from Siddharth Garden and Zoo in Maharashtra s Aurangabad city last February.
