Hellam Hills Nature Preserve in York County recently was expanded by 70 acres and now stands at more than 1,000 acres.
According to the Lancaster Conservancy, the expansion occurred through a land deal with Ralph Streibig, who donated part of the value of the land in memory of his husband, Richard L. King, and King’s family, who loved the land and worked to preserve it for future generations.
The nature preserve northeast of York now is nearly 800 contiguous protected acres and more than 1,000 acres total.
The conservancy completed the purchase with a Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
