Dr Ernest Addison, BoG Governor
Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Ernest Addison, has revealed that the small and medium scale enterprise (SMEs) sector of the Ghanaian economy is dominated by women and youth with vast opportunities to harness economic potential.
According to the World Bank estimates, he said about a third of all SMEs in Africa are owned by women.
He noted that the sector similar to others across the African continent, contribute significantly towards economic growth through provision of goods and services, creating job opportunities, and helping with poverty reduction.
These contributions notwithstanding, SMEs across Africa face severe constraints that stifle their active participation in international trade.
