More support for ACT hospitality businesses
ACT hospitality businesses will get a boost this July with many doing it tougher than usual this winter as a result of COVID-19.
Canberra on-licence venues will be able to sell takeaway alcohol and offer it for home delivery from today until the end of July.
Businesses can choose to take advantage of this offer to sell liquor for consumption off premises.
The Minister for Business and Better Regulation Tara Cheyne said the ACT Government is continuing to look for ways to support our businesses during this quieter than normal period.
“Canberrans are reminded that this is a great time to support the local businesses that support us,” said Minister Cheyne.

Businesses encouraged to expand or create outdoor dining spaces for summer
Cafes, restaurants and bars are being encouraged to trial outdoor dining with no permit fees. Venues with existing outdoor dining areas may also be able to expand by utilising public space or sharing spaces with neighbouring businesses.

The tourism and hospitality industries are some of our biggest employers. To support these sectors, the ACT Government introduced a free 12-month trial for outdoor dining on 1 February 2020 and 43 businesses across the ACT have already taken advantage. We have also waived all existing outdoor dining permit fees for businesses for 2020-21.
