this country. get this under control, and make some decisions that are going to help everybody in this country. at this point it s complete and utterly unaccept isable how this administration is operating with this. all right. how much time do you spend focusing on healthcare versus focusing on your business because it sounds like business owners don t have any time to focus on their business. they are just worried about what the guy in the middle of the screen is going to do next. i think i have spent hours and months of my time. if i ran my business the way the president runs this country or runs this program in particular. i wouldn t have a business it s very difficult and challenging to work through a sea of red tape and spend time on this situation when i could be better off gaining new clients, retaining business. this is just doesn t work for me. if you ran it like the administration did, you would be bankrupt but, guess what, our country is just like a company, probably
every successful business is a great big government. it is another way to say we need to raise taxes. he wants more taxes from the small business people. the ceo of the chamber of commerce said we should applaud the risk takers and dreamers who are willing to stand out from the crowd rather than denigrate what these people have done. we need to encourage people to start a business it is all part of the american dream. do they get a tarp bailout, absolutely not. gretchin: what you do would never have been possible without the government. if you rup a business do you agree with that? what you do would not have been possible without help from the government. eric: i have run several businesses and run pay rolls
reporter: what makes the story different is here is a federal agency that wants to save taxpayer money due to email and electronic banking the post office lost $3 billion in three months. the agency wants to begin closing post offices to stop the red ink, but some in congress won t let it. got to get the mail through. reporter: a lot has changed since horses moved the mail. it arrives like this. you ve got mail. reporter: because of it the postal service is broke. in the post office was a business it would be in bankruptcy, it s insolvent. reporter: it loses $25 million a day. it does not receive a federal subsidy. that may be changing. today we take a very important first step to save an american institution. reporter: the u.s. senate passed a $34 billion bailout bill last month that actually
too bad. no recourse. that couldn t happen here in the u.s. because we have respect for contracts, courts, laws. if that goes, then so does our economy. the foreign corrupt practices act which walmart is accused of violating mainly aims to ensure that our strong culture of laws and ethics travels with americans doing business overseas. it s an important part of what makes doing business it in the united states different and better. which brings me to the next thing wrong with this picture. the u.s. chamber of commerce has been lobbying to water down the foreign corrupt practices act. it seems that they think the law is bad for american business. i guess because, hey, if other countries have corruption problems, why should we be so morally pure when go business over there? oh, chamber. have you so lost your way that you you forget how important the american legal and ethical business culture is to our
we re developing a near 100-year supply of natural gas. that s something that we expect could support more than 600,000 jobs by the end of the decade. and that s why we ve worked with the private sector to develop a high-tech car battery that costs half as much as other batteries and can go up to 300 miles on a single charge. think about that. that will save you some money at the pump. and that is why we are helping companies like this one right here and plants like this one right here to make more cars and trucks that use less oil. when i ran for office, i went to detroit and gave a speech to automakers where i promised that i was going to raise fuel standards on our cars so that they d go further on a gallon of gas. i said we should do the same thing on trucks. i have to tell you when i said it, i didn t get a lot of applause in the room because there was a time when automakers were resisting higher fuel standards, because change isn t easy. but you know what? after three d
