Published February 28, 2021 4:31pm State-run lender Land Bank of the Philippines released P5.28 billion in approved loans under its Interim Rehabilitation Support to Cushion Unfavorably affected Enterprises by COVID-19 (I-RESCUE), nine months into the program. LandBank said the amount was released to 208 borrowers: 167 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), 34 cooperatives, and four microfinance institutions (MFIs), and three large corporations as of end-January 2021. This was part of the P6.95-billion worth of loans approved for 227 borrowers, which in turn was part of the P10-billion initial internal fund of I-RESCUE launched in April 2020 as mandated by the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act.

Published January 9, 2021 7:02pm Business tycoon Manuel Villar is the only Filipino who made it into business publication Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index, a daily ranking of the world’s top 500 richest people. According to Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index, Villar is ranked as 382nd richest in the world as of January 9, 2021. The business publication based its ranking on the market value of billionaires’ publicly-listed businesses. Villar’s fortune, consisting of businesses in real estate, retail, and utilities, is estimated to be worth $6.76 billion. The Bloomberg list ranks Tesla’s Elon Musk as the world’s richest with a total net worth of $209 billion, followed by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos with $186 billion, and Bill Gates with $134 billion.
