prime minister, brian mulroney. he had funny stories from foreign policy, nato meetings, and then alan simpson bringing the humor in his wyoming jimmy stewart-style delivery that only he could. he said those that travel the high road of humility are not bothered by heavy traffic. [laughter] there were laps in the cathedral. also saying that george bush never hated anyone. he knew, what his mother and my mother always knew. hatred corrodes that container it s carried in. i will never that quote, as well. it was very moving and very funny, from alan simpson. everyone was told, in no certain terms by bush 43, the time limits. i think they all went over a little bit. there was not an extra moment in this amazing service where everything had its tribute and its reason for being part of it.
the hearse is coming up along side air force one. this flight as was the flight that flew the president here is called sam 41. special air mission 41. we repeat the designation air force one is only used when the current president is on board and in the air. nicole, you logged a lot of hours on that plane and on that tarmac coming and going. it s spectacular. i think the only thing that rivals is it is a trip on marine one. that s a nice view as well. presidents are moved by these things. they don t become ordinary to presidents, at least the ones i worked for. bush 43 and bush 41. i m sure the family is really touched and moved by this last flight. i have to say the relationship that the two presidents bush had with the people that work on air
welcome back. family, friends and foreign dignitaries gathered to pay their final respects to president george herbert walker bush. we sawe y touchin ining moment pr hfrom his son chokingk tears and john meachum who read that eulogy to president bush before he died. there has been plenty of other news today. we want to get you caught up on all of that starting with the special counsel s filing of a two part sentencing memo for michael flynn. while the document came heavily redacted the lines between those reveal the extent to which flynn has cooperated with the special counsel. initially laws out flynn s serious crimes, mueller s prosecutors then write quote, the defendant deserves credit
great soldier. he was the commanding general in ft. hood as they went through the terrible on base shooting. george h.w. bush will fly back to houston texas. you often point out this is a guy from greenwich, connecticut. i talked with john meachum about the gentle conceit that george herbert walker bush went west in a make it or bust oil venture. there was no chance that he was going to be allowed to fail in life and fall flat on his face. i mean that affectionately but accurately. there s a lot of dusters out
for us to have vigorous push and pull in our democracy, but still view each other as good americans. i think part of what his message was that we can really go after each other and they did, the 88 campaign was a very hard fought campaign, the 92 campaign was a hard fought campaign, but when it s over we accept these democratic outcomes and we can believe each other to be good americans, even though we disagree on virtually everything. certainly people had vigorous disagreements with his policies during his one term, people had disagreements with bush 43 s policies, but the idea that we can still look at each other as all being patriotic, all wanting the same thing, all rowing the boat in the same direction despite those disagreements to me is the greatest legacy that bush 41 and the whole bush family is going to leave this country. i think that message permeating this week to me is one of the greatest things we can have in a country that feels fractured right now in our politics.
