of emergency. gloria is joining us from new york city with more on this. what are you seeing this morning? it s interesting that you mentioned that drop of migrant encounters at the border. while that number has decreased in new york city, they are still dealing with an increase of people that are arriving here in the city or who are already in the city who need to be placed into shelter and connected to resources. i want to give you a look at what s happening behind me. you see the roosevelt hotel. behind that white van, you ll see two city buses. those buses have arrived here from port authority bus terminals. they were there to meet with another bus that was bringing in migrants from the southern border earlier today. we ve seen about three or four buses arrive this morning with about 20 to 25 migrants in them.
gloria, what are you seeing there? reporter: well, let me tell you a little bit about the scenes i have been watching unfold here today. we have been watching some city busses arrive at the roosevelt hotel behind me. in fact, i want to give you a look. if you see that white van that s there directly behind it as the city bus. what s likely to happen is there is a group of migrants likely waiting inside the hotel to board that bus and then they will be taken to another shelter. and the reason for that is that the city has located this hotel and assigned it to be a welcoming center. i believe we have pictures and images from the inside of the hotel. you can see that the city has tried to set up a welcome center that is supposed to connect migrants with resources. they are arriving here after being bussed to port authority bus terminals, most likely from places like texas and the southern border. when they arrive here, they are
now are being housed in public buildings. in chicago people are being housed in bus terminals. you heard the mayor call for more assistance, more resources from the federal government. you want to faster process to get work permits for some of these folks who have arrived and want to work, or want to provide for their families. but the white house right now is playing a game of catch up. you can t really, in many ways you can blame this administration, but the immigration system was broken during the trump administration, and before that during the obama administration. i remember covering back in 06, then president george w. bush trying to provide the comprehensive immigration policy. for too long it has been viewed as sort of the third rail of politics. now here we are. here we are. my goodness. thank you all so much. this is such a complicated an important issue. and all of you made us so much

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kochi Water Metro's first phase on Tuesday. The water metro, which is India's first-of-its-kind public boat service integrated with a metro rail network, will be integrating Kochi's water transport system.
Before inaugurating the services, PM Modi said that Kochi Water Metro would be a "significant enhancement" to the port city's infrastructure.
The water metro service will provide electrically propelled hybrid ferries which will connect the mainland to the islands in Kochi, benefitting more than a lakh residents.
