Million. Speaker cards. Yes. Good afternoon mr. Smith. Good afternoon board members. I apologize that i blurted out the comment. Im going to quote two people thats in history. Relative to what is going on with many mpa, the budget, and the especially the expenditure. One is the spending money mta, like drunken sailors. It is a cliche but its true. The second one is more refined quote by shakespeare who said, this is for the sound and pure signifying nothing which goes on at all of your meetings that i attend. Im glad to try to support you, but i cant. And 10. 6 ats 505,000 of a budget of 9. 15 million, that goes up to 7. 5 million. You avoided this. We brought it up many times. The machines can be extracted in china town are buried underground like many projects around the world, saving anywhere from 21 to 79 million on that 10. 6. I dont know if item 12 is allowed to be mentioned. This is 10. 6. Thank you. Next speaker on 10. 6. Joe karlson. Mr. Chairman and members of the board. Im n
Place. Ill be talking to the mayors Economic Development office and the work force unit to see to what extent they can help us. There was an article in the city, theres pockets of this city that are relatively high unemployment rates. I think hopefully theres in opportunities we have, but its something we have to monitor unless we put more medallion but the main point is moving in accordance of what you authorized over the last year and a half or so. Next with regard to safety in the south of market area. I want to talk about two different things. 6th street. On folson street, we held a Community Meeting a couple of weeks back to talk about the proposed pilot on folsome. Theyre being studied that is evaluating a number of street gates and street changes throughout that whole corridor, but what we have been working towards on folsome between 11th and 4th is doing a pilot where well remove a travel lane to create a much better buffer, easier to see bike lane much as weve done on 8th stre
To seek your approval, but with your approval were still on track with that to do it by the end of the year. In the same spirit of piloting, weve been working on 6th street to get sidewalk ball bouts. Doing work like that takes a long time to go through all the public process and design and environmental process and construction, yet 6th street has the highest pedestrian activity in the city and does have an among the highest commission rates, so in parallel with a larger Street Project that were working with the community and our partners and with supervise kims office, were doing a pilot and i believe theyre all in the ground or going in the ground from market to howard, six different locations putting in temporary sidewalk and doing it with paint and planters and safe posts so rather wait on the process, well do it now and shortening crossing distances and giving us the ability to evaluate how these functions as we develop the full project. Well be having a Community Meeting to foll

Im not necessarily against this increase youre being asked to support today, however, i want to raise a couple of issues. I think its relevant to this one and thats back in february of this year, a rep who was a sub contractor to the tunnelling contractor submitted to your staff a scope and budget and their proposal for doing not all the work thats needed for the extension of the subway theater, but part of it was 10. 3 million, i believe and your staff has apparently negotiated that down to 5. 5 million which sounds like quite an achievement. I wont get into

Weve been working with supervisor kims office. Ive done a lot of outreach and the staff has contacted more than 25 community groups. Generally the potential pilot has been received and people are asking us to go further than 11th to 4th. We held a Public Meeting on friday and well be coming to the mta board at the next meeting to get your approval. Although its a pilot, we want to seek your approval, but with your approval were still on track with that to do it by the end of the year.
