The Only Seafood Cafe was a precious part of the Vancouver that I came to know when I first moved west in the early 1970s. Much of the city that existed in the first half of the 20th Century was still alive at that time. I probably ate at The Only once a month until I moved north in 1980 chowder, halibut cheeks and chips was my regular order, but if they had no cheeks, I favoured the fried skate. Even after I moved to Fort St. John (where pioneering history was only one generation ago), every time I came back to Vancouver, a visit to The Only was essential.
