the public and we expect members of the public to line the route of the motorcade but it will be hod. yet there was a service in the arizona state capital and people stood in line for up to three hours to file past john mccain s casket and pay their last respects and it was very hot and 21 people had to be treated by emts, two people taken to the hospital. it s expected to be hotter today, and one final word on that church service today, the recessional at the end will fittingly by my way by frank sinatra. senator john mccain will take that final flight to washington, the flight he took so many times during his 35 years representing the people of arizona and he will land at joint base andrews at 7:30 and tomorrow he will lie in state at the u.s. capital. he s been saying good-bye to arizona the last couple days. over the weekend, the nation gets a chance to say good-bye to

bret: we are live at the u.s. capital, getting ready for some votes. joined by illinois senator tammy duckworth. thanks for joining me. your thoughts on what s happening here and where it goes. that s my concern, the problem is i do think the bill will have enough republican votes to pass. the vice president is already here to cast the tie-breaking vote. my concern is what happens in conference. once it passes the senate, it goes back into the house and we lose control of it. there s nothing to say speaker ryan won t not go to conference and look at changes.
lose. donald trump tweeted this morning reacting to that. among others things, she s an overrated actress. you and i would be discussing meryl streep while overlooking the u.s. capital. i would not have guessed that. she speaks for a lot of folks in hollywood, and certainly, you know, if you believe the election results, a majority of americans who voted who do not you should believe the election ruesults. i mean the fact that the majority of americans did not vote for donald trump, and it s something that i think he as the president and the president-elect in the next few days still hasn t really addressed other than to suggest that people that speak out against him are unqualified or unworthy, and, you know, it s an interesting thing. i don t know whether we ll see any change in his tone and demeanor come wednesday should he have this news conference as scheduled and get asked about it, but it s something he is going to continue to face should he be not address it in some ways.
of course, all of this happening on memorial day weekend with the detonation happening before the annual memorial day concert on the u.s. capital s west lawn. this is a major event and this year included big names, including gloria estefan and colon powell and chairmans of the joint chiefs of staff martin dempsey. a lot of people scared out there. i can imagine. the nation is pausing on this memorial day to remember service members who gave their lives. ceremonies at arlington national cemetery will get under way. cnn will be watching. correspondent barbara starr is there, in fact with more for us. barbara. reporter: good morning, mikaela. we are here at arlington. it will open to the public in just under an hour and we expect of course every memorial day as we always see a great number of people american coming here to pay their respects to the nation s fallen here at arlington, 400,000 are interred here.
