A plug-tug from the ability store Landlords who flout electrical regulations in their rental homes could now face fines of up to £30,000. Bury Council have adopted new regulations which will help them enforce standards on private landlords who breach their duties. The regulations came into force in June 2020 but had not been adopted and implemented by the council but they have now agreed to introduce them. A report to the council’s cabinet stated that unsafe electrical installations in rented homes ‘will not be tolerated’. Introducing the new measure, Coun Clare Cummins, who is responsible for housing services said the measures would ‘drive up standards in the private rented sector’.
