WEDA announces webinar on environmental risks of dredging April 21, 2021, by Zlatan Hrvacevic Western Dredging Association (WEDA) has announced its next webinar titled “A New PIANC Guideline for Managing Environmental Risks of Navigation Infrastructure Projects” will take place on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1 PM EST. This joint webinar between PIANC, ERDC, and WEDA will focus on PIANC’s Environmental Commission’s development of a standard of practice to support ports and other public and commercial navigation interests in managing environmental risks associated with navigation infrastructure projects. Managing environmental risks from navigation infrastructure involves economic and environmental costs, and is complicated by the diverse range of policies, perspectives, risk attitudes, and personal values that influence decision-making.

ERDC Researcher Recognized For Leadership Impacting Contaminated Sediment Standards

December 28, 2020 By Waterways Journal Burton Suedel, a research biologist at the Environmental Laboratory of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), has been recognized by ASTM International for his leadership on a four-year project to develop a guide for risk-based corrective action for contaminated sediment sites. ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) International presented Suedel with a Distinguished Service Award in October for his role in leading the working group, which included members from public companies, trade groups, government agencies and environmental consultancies, in developing the set of guidelines. “I was completely caught off guard and humbled by being recognized by ASTM,” Suedel said. “The work itself is its own reward, and if someone recognizes your effort, that’s the icing on the cake.
