More than 250 areas of Britain were on flood alert today as rail lines were shut and wet weather remained in force with further very heavy and persistent rain on the way.
The Met Office said much of the UK will have above-average temperatures for the time of year from tomorrow until Saturday with eastern England expected to see the brightest conditions.
Dozens of devastated families in Gosport, Hampshire, also had their homes ruined after a high tide swept into their properties, with 50 families evacuated by emergency crews.
