A long deserved honor for one of the area’s Civil War veterans.
Charles Beeman was a Civil War veteran and died in 1938 at the age of 91, but not until Saturday did he have a tombstone marking his grave.
“It’s a sad day when we find that a veteran does not have a headstone,” said John Sawyer of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, “Especially the Civil War folks.”
“It’s a wonderful thing that they are doing,” said Duane Beeman, great, great nephew of Charles, “They are dedicating a lot of time, money and effort.”
