Sydney billionaire Justin Hemmes has announced he will open his first Merivale venue in Melbourne this year.
The venue will be located at the historic Tomasetti House, at 277 Flinders Lane and marks the beginnings of a new era for the hospitality tzar, who owns more than 70 Sydney pubs, restaurants and bars such as Ivy, Mr Wong and Coogee Pavilion.
The unnamed venue will be Merivale s first venture outside of NSW and the second outside of Sydney. The expansion to Melbourne has been long awaited. Many foodies were surprised at Hemmes s choice to acquire the Quarterdeck in Narooma on the NSW south coast last month.
