Prescribed burning is expected to begin as early as May 5th in the Burns Lake Community Forest.
This will be to reduce the risk of wildfire impacting the community, the B.C. Wildfire Service and Burns Lake Community forest with support by Shifting Mosaics Consulting and Northern Fire WoRx be will conducting the burning.
There has been four prescribed burn units identified, totaling 675 hectares, located south of Burns Lake on the west side of Highway 35. Residual slash will be removed by applying a prescribed fire to the areas.
Burning will only occur when conditions are appropriate to ensure safety, meet objectives and allow for adequate smoke dispersal. Smoke may be visible while burning is taking place from Burns Lake and the surrounding areas.
