Theatre launches year-long campaign to support first Burnham-On-Sea Pride A year-long campaign in support of next year’s first Burnham-On-Sea Pride, organiser Steven Mellor and The Princess Theatre have come together to mark the occasion by adding a pride ribbon to one of the current art installations at the venue. A central part of the theatre’s Contact exhibition, 11-year-old Francesca Strong’s piece The Lonely Benches includes a portfolio of well photographed empty bench pictures and a thought provoking installation of a wire structure self-portrait on a bench. Francesca asked members of the public to tie a ribbon on the wire structure in memory of the hard work our NHS undertook and continues to undertake due to the pandemic.

Steve Mellor, who is the founder of the LGBTQ+ Domestic Abuse Awareness Group based in Burnham, is launching Burnham-On-Sea Pride. Pride events take place around the world to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary and queer social and self-acceptance, achievements and legal rights. Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Steve said: “Burnham-On-Sea Pride is being held to celebrate diversity and equality.” “I have been considering holding a Pride event here in Burnham for years and got in contact recently with The Princess Theatre who are very supportive.”
