A Vermont sheriff recently signed onto a letter to President Joe Biden calling for a return to his predecessor s policies at the southern U.S. border.
Orange County Sheriff Bill Bohnyak was one of 275 sheriffs across the country to sign the letter but he was the only signer from Vermont. Only two other sheriffs in New England also signed the letter.
The letter, which was sent April 7, urges Biden to return to immigration policies that became commonplace under former President Donald Trump, including resuming border wall construction at the U.S.-Mexico line.
Bohnyak, who has served as sheriff in Vermont for 14 years, told the Burlington Free Press that he signed the letter out of concern for the safety of his fellow sheriffs across the country and fear that illegal drugs carried over the U.S.-Mexico border could make their way to Vermont. Bohnyak currently serves as the 2nd Vice President to the National Sheriff s Association.
