Burlington, IA- The Burlington Fire Department has announced the opening of the application period for the 2024 Citizen's Fire Academy. According to a news release, the academy will be 8 weeks long and take place on Thursday evenings. The application process will be closed on July 19th, with selection coming the following week. Burlington, IA- The Burlington Police Department says a man has died following a forklift accident. According to a news release, at about 1:46 PM Tuesday, May 21st, Burlington Police Officers responded to assist the Burlington Fire Department with a reported forklift accident at Industrial Service Corporation, 1731 N Roosevelt Avenue. Upon arrival, the victim was located and initially transported to Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, then later transported to the University of Iowa Hospital. The victim, 64-year-old Sam DeJanes, later succumbed to his injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
Burlington, IA- The Burlington Fire Department has announced they have recently been awarded grant funding from Alliant Energy. According to an online post, through Alliant's Community Safety and Engagement grant focus area, the Burlington Fire Department will purchase much-needed critical equipment used at nearly every emergency scene. This funding was used to purchase multiple batteries that power portable light towers, positive-pressure ventilation fans, multiple power tools, hydrant pumps, and chainsaws.
