Perched on Liberty Hill, 3690 21st Street feels like old San Francisco. Casa Cielo began with Sunny Jim and the Burlingame Corporation commissioning it in 1931. Sunny Jim was none other than James Rolph, San Francisco s 30th and longest-serving mayor, who only left his post to become Governor of California.
When it first broke ground, the domicile, now more than 4,700 square feet, was more modest. It was rumored to be the one-bedroom home that he kept for his mistress, silent film star Anita Page, according to a Historical Evaluation Report executed for the property in 2008. These rumors can t be substantiated, but they add intrigue to an already intriguing history.
