Marco elected Elkins mayor; city manager proposal voted down | News, Sports, Jobs

Executive Editor ELKINS Elkins voters elected a new mayor Tuesday and voted down a proposal to create a city manager position, according to unofficial election results. Jerry A. Marco won an overwhelming victory in the mayor’s race, totaling 707 votes out of the more than 1,000 ballots cast in the 2021 Elkins Municipal Election. Karen Wilmoth garnered 166 votes for mayor, while Andrew Carroll tallied 139 votes. D.C. Talkington received 5 votes for mayor. The full results of the election were released by the city at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. Polls closed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. The proposed city charter change that would have adopted a mayor/manager form of government, and would have created a new city manager position, was soundly defeated, with 321 votes cast in favor of the proposal, and 676 votes cast against it.

Virtual Candidate Forum for Elkins election set | News, Sports, Jobs

bjohnson@theintermountain.com ELKINS A virtual Candidate Forum for the March 2 Elkins Municipal Election is set for next week. The Randolph County Democratic Women are organizing the forum, to be held on the Zoom platform. The event is set for 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Thursday. All candidates on the ballot, which features open positions for mayor and one city council member in each of the city’s five wards, are welcome to take part in the forum. “Candidates will be asked to introduce themselves and explain why they’re running for office,” a Friday press release states. “There will be a question and answer period with questions submitted by RCDW members.
