Idaho Senate Committee Signs Off On Anti-Drug Constitutional Amendment

1:16 The amendment’s sponsor, Sen. Scott Grow (R-Eagle), gave a dire warning about where Idaho would be headed if the state legalized marijuana. “This may be our last chance to choose between the culture we have enjoyed in the past and the culture now evident in the states around us,” Grow said. Marijuana is already illegal under state law and this would make it impossible to legalize the drug through a ballot initiative in the future. Republican supporters say crime is higher in neighboring states that have legalized weed and other drugs. But crime statistics from 2019 show Idaho reports two to four times more drug cases per capita and has much higher arrest rates for drug offenses than Oregon and Washington.

Axing Emergency Declaration May Hurt Idaho s Coronavirus Vaccine Rollout, Officials Say

Brad Little’s emergency declaration, which they say has hurt Idaho families. “I think it takes away the arguments of others that the Senate is not going to be serious about dealing with some of these concerns of the public,” said Senate Pro Tem Chuck Winder (R-Boise), noting that some Idaho businesses aren t able to operate under the governor s restrictions. Little argues the vast majority of businesses are still able to open. While terminating the declaration, the proposed resolution includes a stipulation saying it doesn’t prevent the collection of federal relief dollars.

Author: Joey Prechtl Updated: 10:12 PM MST January 17, 2021 BOISE, Idaho The first week of the 2021 Idaho Legislative session wrapped up on Sunday, and there has already been a lot of action by lawmakers. Republican lawmakers introduced a number of bills that, if passed, would limit Idaho Gov. Brad Little s executive powers, as many do not approve of some of his decisions made during the pandemic.  Some lawmakers also feel they deserve more of a say in said decisions. “We fundamentally disagree on how he has handled the pandemic,” Rep. Brent Crane (R-Nampa) said during a committee hearing on Thursday.
