TACLOBAN CITY – The municipality of Burauen recorded an African Swine Fever (ASF) case, making it the seventh municipality in Leyte with a confirmed ASF case.
Laboratory result handed over by Department of Agriculture-8 Regional Executive Director Angel Enriquez to Burauen Mayor Juanito Renomeron Thursday said a sample was taken from Barangay Pawa turned out positive, thus, hogs within a 500-meter radius from where it was taken would be subjected to depopulation as soon as possible.
Dr. Annalou Detablan of the Burauen Municipal Agriculturist Office appealed for affected hog raisers’ cooperation.
She noted that depopulating the hogs within the area is the best way to prevent the virus from spreading, citing that the move is meant to protect the town’s hog industry.

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) strongly condemned the killing of a 59-year-old DENR employee here last Tuesday.
The victim, Rodolfo Concillo, a Forest Technician II, was shot dead in Barangay 92, Apitong. Concillo was assigned to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Palo, Leyte and was the driver of Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Edilberto Caidlang.
“As we extend sympathies to the bereaved family of the victim, we ask the government authorities for a speedy resolution of the case and for the perpetrator to be brought to justice,” DENR 8 Regional Executive Director Tirso Parian said.

+ February 12, 2021 AUTHORITIES arrested three alleged drug personalities in separate buy-bust operations in Eastern Visayas towns from February 11 to 12, 2021.
A report from the Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas headquarters said anti-drug operatives collared Sharon Estrella, 40, after she allegedly sold one sachet believed to be containing shabu to a poseur buyer in Barangay San Esteban, Burauen, Leyte on February 12.
Personnel of Burauen Municipal Police Station and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the region also confiscated from the suspect’s possession and control 11 sachets containing suspected shabu, buy-bust money, and other personal items.
In Lavezares, Northern Samar, joint police operatives also arrested Romy Jay Dineros, 31, and listed as a street-level individual.

In Ormoc City, anti-drug operatives nabbed 37-year-old high-value individual Ronaldo Baltazar around 3:20 p.m. Sunday, January 31.
A poseur buyer was able to buy a sachet containing suspected shabu in exchange for P1,500.
Police also confiscated nine sachets containing suspected shabu weighing an estimated 6 grams with a Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of P40,800, buy-bust money, and other personal items.
Around 4 p.m. Sunday, police in Tacloban City also arrested three suspects identified as Romeo Quinto Mista, Daniel Mista Reubal, and Alfonso Mista Acebo.

TACLOBAN CITY – As the streets and establishments get crowded with Christmas shoppers, Eastern Visayas posted a record-breaking number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Wednesday.
The Department of Health- Eastern Visayas has reported 244 fresh COVID-19 cases out of 1,472 samples tested by the three laboratories, the highest since the pandemic hit the region. This brings the region’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 10,456.
Samar has logged the most number with 56 new cases coming from Basey (8), Calbayog City (2), Catbalogan City (29), Marabut (1), Paranas (1), Pinabacdao (1), San Jose De Buan (4), Sta. Margarita (1), Sta.Rita (4), Talalora (1), and Zumarraga (4).
Eastern Samar has 53 new cases from Borongan City (14), Giporlos (2), Guiuan (18), Maydolong (1), Oras- (14), Quinapondan (1), and Taft (3).
