mass evacuations have been ordered in california as the caldor wildfire burns closer to lake tahoe. thousands of people including tourists to the popular resort area were told to flee quickly. the results of that evacuation was bumper to bumper traffic. look at that. joining us now from south lake tahoe, california, is steve patterson. so, steve, there was only one way out last night due to all the road closures. so how did that process go, this evacuation? it was miserable for people that were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic with a ravaging fire burning around them. officials are seeing that as a good sign. those people got out. south lake tahoe, this is the mission for firefighters sent in from across the state, across the country, to protect this area. to protect the homes in this area. the evacuation zone now
legislation and might we see other members of the house democratic caucus balk at that? it absolutely is. and jim, look, if we just invest in more roads, we will have more congestion. if we just put a lot of electric vehicles on the highway, we re going to have silent traffic jams. we ll still be stuck in traffic. the rest of the world is investing in things like high-speed rail to give americans freedom to travel how they want. to go 250 miles per hour to your destination, not a max of 70 and most likely stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. so if you re filling potholes and just encouraging more people to drive, this is going to actually make things worse. and now we re not even talking about the climate implications here. congestion means more carbon in the atmosphere. so we ve got to think about how we can invest to make sure we re doing right by the climate. we ve all seen the crazy weather that is happening all over the world, all over america right now with that drought out west.
