weapons that there is a problem and it is not just democrats saying that. you have republicans on board and saying the nra saying they would support more legislation on this type of device. and it seems here, dr. jason, johnson, as you look at this that both sides are coming together, at least that s what we re hearing so far, against bump fire stocks. they are going to do something. although, the calendar is a little bit missing on in terms of when they might vote on it. do you think they will make it through to eliminate this accessory for guns that basically give you an ethicacy rate of 56 weapons? basically the republicans who are pretty much against most forms of gun control put their ears to the ground to see what the nra said and the nra didn t say ban them. they said additional regulation might be something that s okay. we don t know what that means. we don t know if that means that
that note. was that just to have law enforcement concentrate their efforts on trying to decipher that note in the room or does it actually mean something, is it coded. think back to the individual s background. he s organized. he s an accountant and auditor so he planned this out very well and that note could very well just be a red herring to throw law enforcement off the track. sam, i want to also ask you about the nra putting out a statement saying the bump fire stocks that we know maybe impacted the number of casualties in this may be subject to additional regulations or the nra saying it should be subject to additional regulations urging actions by the atf, not congress. back in 2010, sam, that atf gave approval for the devices. why were they deemed acceptable? well, at the time, our atf fire and technology branch just like the many hundreds of products that are brought to them for different types of
police vehicles, just remarkable. unexpected twist now in the battle over gun violence. the national rifle association announcing it is in favor of tighter regulation of those bump fire stocks and these other devices that allow semiautomatic weapons to simulate fully automatic weapons fire. the nra statement comes out amid calls for an outright ban on these devices. the gun rights group says the nra believes that it should be subject to additional regulations. the nra statement calls for the federal bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives to review rapid fire devices, it does not mention congress. president trump signaling he s willing to look into the matter. listen to house speaker paul ryan. the point is we all have to get more educated as to what these are, how they became available in the first place.
all of these facts, every time something comes out, it becomes more and more disturbing. let s talk about these bump fire stocks. as a former law enforcement and someone who s had to protect people to are a living, what s your personal view here on these stocks and whether they should even be out there? listen. the bump fire stocks are legal, first of all. so there s going to be a debate as to whether or not should be greater restrictions. the atf i believe was reported in 2010 allowed them to be out in the market place. it goes to the person s intent. what is your intent to do with any type of firearm. this is a conversation that the country as a whole is going to have to get together on. i believe i just saw some recent information that the nra is looking to start a positive conversation around these types of devices. but i will say, any weapon used
