Over 1,000 reports of open burning

Johor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Yahaya Madis said they were always on high alert for changes in weather conditions and in this case, from monsoon to dry season. He highlighted that constant monitoring was being conducted at high-risk areas such as landfills, plantation areas and village gardens. “Based on our early statistics this year, the five hotspots identified are Parit Raja and Ayer Hitam in Batu Pahat, Jalan Mersing-Jemaluang (Mersing) and Kampung Parit Amal (Muar).

42 residents ordered to vacate homes following landslide in Johor Bahru

JOHOR BAHRU (Jan 11): A total of 42 residents from 12 houses in Jalan Bukit Kempas 1/4, Taman Bukit Kempas here were ordered to vacate their homes after a landslide occurred in their residential area. Larkin Fire station operations commander deputy fire officer 1 Suhaimi Jamal said that the station received a report of the incident, which was believed to have been caused by a leaking pipe from a tank owned by Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd at 6.37am today. “Following the report, an inspection was conducted and a leaking eight inch pipe was found near the road shoulder. “As such, the fire and rescue department had to order residents near the landslide to vacate their homes to avoid untoward incidents,” he said when contacted here today.

Police arrest security guard, five others for cable theft and illegal use of firearms

KOTA TINGGI: The police have arrested six men for cable theft and the illegal use of firearms, including a 24-year-old security guard who allegedly conspired with the group. Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said the security guard lodged a police report at 9.25am on Thursday (Jan 7), claiming that he was robbed by a group of masked and shotgun-wielding men at the Tenaga Nasional Bhd substation in Bukit Pelali, Pengerang here where he worked. “In the incident which took place around 2.30am on Thursday, the group had apparently stolen 70m of cable worth about RM10,000 while holding him at gunpoint, ” he said.
