Ein Brand auf dem Gelände der Firma Staudhammer in der Terminalstraße war das Szenario, das einer von der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Burghausen organisierten Großübung am Montag zugrunde lag. Gegen 19 Uhr rückte ein Großaufgebot, bestehend aus 70 Einsatzkräften der Feuerwehren Burghausen, Raitenhaslach und Mehring, sowie der BRK-Bereitschaft Burghausen zum angenommenen Brand ins Industriegebiet aus.
Realitätsnah simuliert, stellte sich die Situation beim Eintreffen dramatisch dar. Kunstnebel drang aus der Fahrzeughalle des Fuhrunternehmens, ein Einweiser meldete mehrere abgängige Personen, die noch im Objekt vermutet wurden. Das Feuer ging offensichtlich von einer Werkstattgrube aus, in der zum Zeitpunkt des Brandausbruchs Schweißarbeiten an einem darüberstehenden Lkw durchgeführt wurden.
