diversity to build unity, to build harmony, to build a better future, to build a sense of community. it s one of the reasons that i think where our party is and what we re trying to do is so important. so i just wanted to offer a few observations about this because i went through both the last elections. i did 133 events in 2010 and i remember i told hillary somewhere in the process of it, that i i said, we re going to take a terrible licking. she said, well, why do you keep agreeing to do more events? i said i don t want this in my conscience. i did this in 94 and i don t want to live through it again without knowing that i got mowed down, that i took a pass. and i think i d like to talk about what this means for all of you. i ve read the president s remarks and very appreciative
optimists, not just opponents. let s build unity in the american family, not angry division. no nominee for president should ever fail in the midst of a war to pay tribute to our troops overseas in his acceptance speech. mitt romney was talking about america. they are on the front lines every day defending america, and they deserve our thanks. i mean, i really thought his entire speech last night was fantastic. it had to have been for him so satisfying, like a triumphant comeback moment. here he is on stage making the case for the foreign policy that he believes in and advocated for. that was so his his character was so despicably undermined in the election as well. i thought this was a great moment for john kerry. it was a great speech.
presidents from washington and jefferson to clinton and bush have stood up for that. president obama stood up for that as well. i applaud him for that. okay, as a muslim are you afraid that if the islamic center moves forward that there will be a backlash against muslims? i m an american. and i m a muslim. and the stated purpose of the cordoba house is to help build unity and cooperation. that sounds a whole lot like the motto of the united states. e plur business unum. out of many, one. if it was a jewish hospital or a catholic university at this site i think we ought to welcome a muslim group who seeks to build the principles of america. okay, let me ask you this, mr. patel because i ve heard many people saying the same thing you re saying about this. the mayor of new york city says it s about religious freedom. he doesn t want anyone telling him where he could put a synagogue so he doesn t want to tell people where they can put a mosque. this situation, though, don t you think
