Marathon Co Committees Vote to Support ISP Broadband Expansion Grant Applications

By Mike Leischner Jul 15, 2021 | 9:12 PM WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) Two committees in Marathon County showed their support for local companies looking to expand broadband service in Central Wisconsin. Thursday afternoon Marathon County’s Executive Committee and the HR and Finance Committee held a joint meeting to hear a presentation from Bug Tussel Wireless regarding their project for a 2021 Public Service Commission Grant Application. The project would expand broadband service in 16 different areas of Marathon County with financial help from the state commission. The County is also looking to partner with two other Internet Service Providers in supporting their PSC Grant Applications. The other service providers, Cirrinity and Country Wireless would also expand broadband services in different areas of the county with fiber installation to new homes.

Luxemburg enters agreement for high-speed internet with Cellcom LUXEMBURG - The Luxemburg Village Board entered into an agreement with wireless service provider Cellcom to provide high-speed fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) internet, TV and voice services to every address in the village. Once the project is underway, residents and businesses within the village limits will have a choice of fiber optic speed options from 250 megabits to one gigabit per second. A press release from Cellcom said it hopes to be able to serve some neighborhoods this year, with the rest of the village having access in 2022. The need for improved internet service in Luxemburg was highlighted in the past year by the COVID-19 pandemic, Village Trustee Brian Barbiaux said in the press release. STURGEON BAY – Amanda and Joe Brooker moved from the Green Bay area to a farm outside Sturgeon Bay three years ago with the intent that she would run her business from home while he commuted to his job with the Green Bay School District.  Their options for high-speed broadband service, a crucial element of making that plan work, proved to be, in a word, “horrible,” said Amanda Brooker, who owns Long Rifle Soap Co.   Their monthly data allocation with HughesNet, a satellite internet service, would last a week, leaving them with a slow connection for the rest of the month.
