The City of Edmonton has apologized to a Canadian artist for suggesting his artwork was pro-colonist. Ken Lum was commissioned more than 10 years ago to create a piece for the Walterdale Bridge project.
Artist Ken Lum says it was supposed to be a monument against colonialism, but the City of Edmonton has opted not to install his massive bronze sculpture, titled The Buffalo and the Buffalo Fur Trader, due to concerns that it could be misinterpreted as a celebration of colonialism. Tom Power caught up with Lum to get his reaction to the decision.
Artist Ken Lum is blasting a Canadian city s decision not to display his artwork criticizing the once prominent fur trade out of fear the artwork could cause offense.
