this. but it is always important in washington that nothing is done until it s done. but this is one of the rare cases. it is worth pointing out that even with all the controversy and strive there are times when congress can work together across party lines and accomplish something, however imperfect it may be. and this is the sort of area that is important for the fiscal health of the country. there s real debate about does this deal achieve that. but in terms of the debt ceiling, the country s ability to borrow money and pay its bills, this would allow for two more years of borrowing power. it would allow for the next couple years of budget predictability. it would allow for strengthening the military. that s something certainly the white house wants. it would also allow for democrats spending that would expand some of the domestic programs that they want. so it s one of those everybody gets something they want. fiscal conservatives are not pleased about this because the debt certain
daunting set of challenges. he is not far wrong. expectation number one for him is brexit. that s what people who voted for him want. he set the bar high by saying do or die, come what may, britain must be out of the european union by november. so he will be expected to deliver that. however, even though there is a new prime minister, the set of realities in british and european politics hasn t changed. the divorce deal is the same. the european union is not going to change that. boris johnson has a tiny british parliamentary majority until a general election. it is even worse for theresa may. he has a whole entree of
straight away he will face problems right away. it will expose the differences. we will get to the reaction in just a moment. ambassador, the u.s. announced it wants to form an alliance to make the strait of hormuz a little bit safer. is there a message for the u.s. in that move that some of the european countries are trying to forge their own path in terms of maritime security? european countries don t want to be closely associated with the united states right now vis-a-vis iran. we left the deal. britain, france, and germany are still in the deal. lots of people in europe believe the trump administration is looking for a fight with iran. i don t think that s true. i don t think president trump is itching to go to war. but you can see the divisiveness
plan. it is $1.37 trillion spending package. it has been the product of a lot of behind the scenes work. again, this is the president, the treasury secretary, speaker pelosi, and leader schumer coming together on this. we ve got some of the more conservative members not so sure. i spoke to larry kudlow, the president s economic adviser, for his take on where this deal stands and if he believes it will get through congress. it s a deal that we ll get through. i think people are signing on, democrats and republicans. it isn t everything we hoped for. but it got through the debt ceiling. that is so important. we re not going to default on american securities. reporter: the president has publicly said he will support it. we have seen in times past where the president has later waivered when there has been criticism. but this could be a big achievement of getting off the
